Global Affairs Canada launched an online tool on 20 June 2025 that lets anyone check in real time whether an apostille issued federally or by Alberta, Saskatchewan or British Columbia is genuine. On 30 October 2025 it added an online triage portal where applicants file their authentication request electronically, confirm document eligibility and track status, although originals must still be mailed.
Who it affects
Canadians and foreign recipients of Canadian documents, and anyone sending documents to Global Affairs Canada for an apostille.
What changes in practice
- Request forms are submitted online before mailing documents.
- Applicants can track their file status without calling.
- Recipients can verify federal, Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. apostilles online.
