California Secretary of State continues county apostille pop-up shops for a third year

6 May 2026

California's Secretary of State partnered with county clerk-recorders including Orange, San Diego, Santa Clara, Kern and San Francisco to offer same-day in-person apostilles at one-day pop-up events in 2026. The Orange County event on 6 May 2026 charged the standard $20 state fee plus a $6 handling fee per signature, first-come first-served, with on-site notary service and, new this year, domestic partnership registration.

Who it affects

California residents who need apostilles but live far from the Sacramento and Los Angeles offices.

What changes in practice

  • Same-day apostilles available locally without mailing documents to Sacramento.
  • No appointments; bring originals and a completed pop-up cover sheet.
  • Card, check or money order only; cash not accepted for apostille fees.
