Bangladesh's accession, deposited 29 July 2024, took effect on 30 March 2025, bringing the Convention to 127 Contracting Parties at the time. It was the first HCCH instrument Bangladesh had joined. Documents moving between Bangladesh and other Convention states now need only an apostille instead of embassy legalization.
Who it affects
Bangladeshi nationals abroad and foreign document holders sending records to Bangladesh for employment, education, marriage or business.
What changes in practice
- Bangladesh missions stopped legalizing documents from Convention countries.
- U.S. documents for Bangladesh need only a state or federal apostille.
- Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues apostilles for outbound documents.
